Genshin Impact Version 5.8 May Break Character Release Tradition

2025-05-22 03:13:24

A trusted insider in the Genshin Impact community has revealed that Version 5.8 might not introduce any new characters, contrary to previous expectations. This would mark a significant departure from the game's established pattern of releasing approximately 17 characters per major region update cycle.

Since the introduction of Inazuma in Version 2.0, Genshin Impact has maintained a consistent rhythm of character releases. Counting Aloy as a playable character, both Inazuma, Sumeru, and Fontaine each received exactly 17 new characters throughout their respective update cycles.

This potential change comes as Natlan currently has 14 characters released between Versions 5.0 and 5.6. With Skirk and Dahlia scheduled to debut in Version 5.7, the count would rise to 16, leaving one slot potentially unfilled. Earlier leaks about a new Hydro character in Version 5.8 now appear uncertain, suggesting HoYoverse might be altering its approach to character releases in the Natlan era.

According to insider Uncle Kokomi (previously known as HomDGRat), Version 5.8 will not introduce any new Genshin Impact characters. If accurate, this would make Natlan the first region since the game's launch to not reach the 17-character threshold. While this might disappoint some players, it could provide an opportunity to focus on reruns of popular characters like Chasca, Mualani, and Citlali.

The potential absence of new characters in Version 5.8 coincides with Natlan's unusual content schedule. Many players have expressed frustration with the region's slower content rollout compared to Fontaine, which received four map expansions in the same timeframe that Natlan only received two. This upcoming patch might continue that trend as players await the journey to Mare Jivari.

While the lack of new characters might be disappointing, it's important to remember that leaks can change. The Genshin Impact community has seen several instances where expected character releases were postponed or altered during development. Players can currently look forward to Skirk and Dahlia, whose beta testing has generated significant interest. These characters are expected to debut on June 18, 2025, with Version 5.8 following on July 30, 2025.
