Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 has been officially announced for a 2026 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This highly anticipated sequel follows the success of the 2023 title Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, developed by Auroch Digital, the same British studio behind the original.

A few years ago, the Warhammer 40,000 franchise was revitalized with a retro-styled first-person shooter, which resonated well with fans. The original Boltgun received positive reviews, earning an average score of 76 on OpenCritic, and was praised for its authentic '90s FPS feel. Building on this success, Auroch Digital is now working on a direct sequel, with Devolver Digital’s Big Fan Games handling publishing. The announcement was made during the recent Warhammer Skulls Showcase event, alongside several other exciting projects.

On May 22, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 was unveiled with an action-packed gameplay trailer. The sequel, set for a 2026 release, continues the story of Malum Caedo, the iconic Space Marine, as he battles heretics across new environments. The game retains its retro visual style, inspired by classic '90s shooters like Doom and Quake. Key additions include new locations (such as a hive city and jungle swamp), new enemies like Bloodletters and Juggernauts, and a branching campaign with multiple paths and outcomes. Additionally, Auroch Digital released Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun—Words of Vengeance, a free Steam game that transforms the original Boltgun into a fast-paced typing challenge.

While Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is slated for 2026, the franchise has several major releases planned for 2025, including:

  • The remastered Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (June 10)
  • The Siege Mode update for Space Marine 2 (June 26)
  • The Dawn of War remaster (late 2025)

These projects aim to cater to a broad spectrum of Warhammer 40,000 fans, ensuring a steady stream of content.

Following the massive success of Space Marine 2 in 2024, developers are capitalizing on the franchise's momentum. Fans are also eagerly awaiting news about Space Marine 3, which was confirmed in March 2025.
