While retaining the weapon-based racing mechanics fans adore, Mario Kart World introduces several changes, including 24-character races, an open-world environment, and seamless travel between courses. However, one of the most notable updates is the inclusion of various NPC characters like Cow from Moo Moo Farms. Despite the excitement surrounding these additions, Nintendo recently shared disappointing news about their limitations.

While many of these new characters have quickly become fan favorites, Nintendo confirmed that "NPC" racers like Cow, Cataquack, and Chargin' Chuck will not have access to Mario Kart World's new costume feature, as initially reported by ComicBook. This means iconic characters like Mario and Yoshi can dress up in various regional outfits, but NPCs will remain

The new costume system has captured the attention of fans. Nintendo explained that these outfits can be unlocked in free roam mode by exploring different regions and visiting Yoshi's drive-thru restaurants to collect Dash Food. Once consumed, the food transforms the player's character into a region-specific outfit, which is then permanently unlocked in Mario Kart World.

While Nintendo has already showcased game modes like Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, and Free Roam, there may be more surprises in store. A Japanese advertisement for the game hinted at the return of Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World, allowing players to race courses in reverse for a fresh challenge.
