Nintendo Switch Users Miss Out on Dying Light: Retouched Update
2025-06-26 08:15:15Nintendo Switch players anticipating the Dying Light: Retouched Update are facing disappointment as developer Techland confirms the graphical enhancement won't be coming to the platform. This news comes as the survival horror classic prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a significant visual overhaul on other consoles.
Scheduled for release on June 26, 2025, the Retouched Update promises upgraded textures, improved lighting systems, and enhanced audio design. While these improvements will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Nintendo's hybrid console has been notably excluded from the update roster.
When questioned by IGN about the omission, Techland representatives stated they currently have no plans to adapt the update for either the original Switch or its upcoming successor. This decision continues the franchise's complicated relationship with Nintendo platforms - while Dying Light: Platinum Edition saw a Switch release, planned cloud versions of Dying Light 2 never materialized.
Industry analysts suggest technical limitations may be the primary factor. Despite receiving updates for previous-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the Switch's hardware capabilities fall significantly behind even those systems. The update's enhanced visual features might simply exceed what the current Switch can handle without substantial compromises.
For Nintendo-exclusive fans, the only way to experience Dying Light remains through backward compatibility on the upcoming Switch 2. However, Techland has clarified they have no current projects in development specifically for Nintendo's next-generation hardware either.
