The Sonic the Hedgehog universe is already rich with beloved mascots, and past titles like Sonic & Sega: All-Stars Racing have even included characters from other franchises such as Shenmue and Team Fortress. Fans have been eagerly compiling wish lists of non-Sonic characters they hope to see in the game, but Sega might be taking a more surprising route with its DLC guest racers.

F2Insider recently shared leaked clips of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Twitter (via NintendoLife), seemingly confirming SpongeBob SquarePants as a future DLC character. The beloved yellow sponge is shown riding a SpongeBob-themed Extreme Gear hoverboard through a course set in Bikini Bottom. Other clips feature SpongeBob driving a Krabby Patty-themed kart and Sonic using a power-up inspired by SpongeBob’s alarm. Rumors also suggest that Patrick Star might join the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds roster.

Another leak reveals concept images of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Wagon as a vehicle option, along with an Extreme Gear inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender—complete with Aang as its rider. Additionally, a track based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem could be included, taking players through New York City’s sewers with a giant mutant enemy obstructing the path. Lastly, Alex from Minecraft might also join as a DLC character, complete with her own blocky stone kart.

Both SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are owned by Paramount, the studio behind the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies. This suggests that the leaked DLC could stem from a cross-promotional deal between Sega and Paramount—assuming the leaks are genuine. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has yet to receive an official release date, but this could change at Summer Game Fest later this week.
