Grand Theft Auto 6 Now Available for Wishlisting on Xbox Store with Pre-Load Placeholder
2025-06-25 19:14:40Following its appearance on the PlayStation Store last month, the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 has finally become available for wishlisting on the Xbox Store. Xbox Series X/S owners now have the unique ability to download a minimal pre-load file when adding the game to their wishlist. However, this 300MB file serves merely as a placeholder rather than the full game installation.
Rockstar Games recently surprised fans worldwide with the release of the second official trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, accompanied by a comprehensive website update featuring over 70 screenshots and extensive details about the game's setting and characters. As revealed in the initial 2023 trailer, players will follow the criminal exploits of dual protagonists Jason and Lucia, whose simple heist plan spirals into a dangerous conspiracy. The developers emphasize that survival will depend heavily on the characters' interdependence throughout their perilous journey.
The Xbox Store listing follows PlayStation's earlier availability, allowing Series X/S users to visit the official Grand Theft Auto 6 store page and add the title to their wishlist. Unlike PlayStation's implementation, Xbox automatically downloads this small placeholder file - a standard feature for the platform that doesn't indicate early access to the full game.
Rockstar recently announced a significant delay for Grand Theft Auto 6, pushing the release from Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. The developers cited the need for additional development time to meet their high standards and player expectations. The game will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
PC gamers face continued uncertainty regarding a release date. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the situation, noting Rockstar's historical pattern of staggered platform releases: "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." While this suggests a PC version will eventually emerge, it confirms the platform won't be available at launch, following the studio's established release strategy seen with previous titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
The gaming community continues to speculate about potential crossovers with previous GTA titles, particularly regarding whether characters from Grand Theft Auto 5 might appear in DLC content. Such inclusions could delight longtime fans but might also risk conflicting with the new game's narrative direction and thematic identity.
