Overwatch 2 Teams Up with G.I. Joe: Exclusive Skins and Crossover Event Revealed
2025-06-26 04:13:42Blizzard Entertainment has officially unveiled the exciting G.I. Joe collaboration coming to Overwatch 2, featuring five iconic character transformations. Players can look forward to seeing Snake Eyes Genji, Scarlett Freja, Destro Doomfist, Baroness Widowmaker, and Cobra Commander Reaper when the event launches on July 1.
The crossover announcement came alongside Season 17's Powered Up update, which went live on June 24. While the initial reveal was relatively low-key, fans can now get their first proper look at how these legendary G.I. Joe characters will appear in the Overwatch universe.
From July 1 through July 14, Overwatch 2 players will experience a special in-game event where these G.I. Joe skins come to life. Each transformation includes more than just visual changes - characters will receive new voice lines, highlight intros, victory poses, and other thematic cosmetics that faithfully recreate the G.I. Joe experience.
The five confirmed crossover skins include:
- Baroness Widowmaker
- Scarlett Freja
- Destro Doomfist
- Cobra Commander Reaper
- Snake Eyes Genji
While Blizzard hasn't officially announced pricing, these skins are expected to follow previous collaboration patterns. Individual bundles will likely cost 2500 Overwatch Coins ($25), with a Mega Bundle available for 5900 Coins ($59). Each bundle will include matching player icons, name cards, and additional cosmetic items.
Beyond the premium skins, players can participate in special challenges during the event period. By playing matches in Quick Play, Competitive, or Stadium modes, participants can earn exclusive G.I. Joe-themed rewards including voice lines, sprays, a weapon charm, and 25,000 Battle Pass XP.
Additionally, Overwatch 2 is currently offering free Loot Boxes through Twitch Drops until July 7, and four more Epic Loot Boxes can be earned by completing Powered Up event challenges before July 1. While these won't contain the G.I. Joe cosmetics, they may include crossover items from other Blizzard franchises like World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo.
