Overwatch 2 Season 17 Introduces Major Flashpoint Mode Overhauls and Map Reworks
2025-06-28 07:18:19Blizzard has unveiled substantial updates coming to Overwatch 2's Flashpoint game mode, scheduled for implementation in the mid-season patch of Season 17. These changes include comprehensive map redesigns and gameplay adjustments aimed at enhancing the competitive experience.
The Flashpoint mode, first introduced in Season 6, features teams battling to control three strategic points across expansive maps. Currently available battlegrounds include New Junk City, Suravasa, and the newly added Aatlis map. With the original maps approaching their two-year anniversary, Blizzard has responded to community feedback with these significant updates.
The development team has focused on improving map navigation, competitive balance, and visual clarity. Key changes include redesigned entrances, adjusted building heights, and enhanced thematic elements to make each location more distinctive. Spawn rooms will receive attention to reduce downtime, while new flank routes and cover placements will offer more strategic options during matches.
New Junk City will undergo transformations across all control points, maintaining its signature chaotic combat while improving flow. Updates include new upper pathways to shorten respawn returns, expanded Hammer Mill access, and complete redesigns of Bomb Flats, Junkyard, Refinery, and Ducts areas.
Suravasa's improvements focus on navigational clarity, with reduced visual obstructions and enhanced lighting to guide players. The map will feature simplified spawn structures and removed unnecessary pathways, alongside adjusted entry points for better movement between areas.
A significant gameplay change modifies point selection logic after the middle capture. The system now favors locations closer to the losing team's spawn, creating fairer engagements and reducing cross-map travel. Blizzard promises additional details about these updates as Season 17 progresses.
