Originally launched on May 21 with over 50 iconic Activision games, the Retro Classics service has quickly become a fan favorite by offering special achievements, challenge modes, and global leaderboards that reignite competitive spirits among retro gaming enthusiasts.

Developed in collaboration with Antstream Arcade – the creators of a popular cloud gaming platform featuring 1,300+ retro titles – Xbox Retro Classics has already demonstrated its appeal by expanding to PlayStation consoles. The upcoming expansion will nearly triple the current collection, though specific game titles remain under wraps. Antstream's developers have confirmed the addition of new tournament modes and challenges to enhance replay value.

This major content update arrives amidst speculation about potential Xbox Game Pass subscription price adjustments. While Microsoft hasn't confirmed any pricing changes, the significant value addition of hundreds of classic games could help justify any future adjustments. The expansion also complements the service's July 2025 lineup, which includes highly anticipated retro remakes like Legend of Mana and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4.
