Independent developer Slavic Magic has unveiled ambitious plans to revamp multiple core systems in Manor Lords, the critically acclaimed medieval city-building strategy game. After six months without major updates, the solo developer confirms this extended development period was dedicated to implementing groundbreaking changes that will transform gameplay mechanics.

Since its Early Access launch in April 2024, Manor Lords has achieved remarkable success, selling over 2.5 million copies on Steam while maintaining a 'Mostly Positive' rating. The game's unique fusion of intricate resource management, authentic medieval town development, and real-time tactical combat has established it as a standout title in the strategy genre.

In a detailed Steam blog post, Slavic Magic outlined the extensive changes coming in the next update. The developer emphasized that this isn't merely an incremental patch but rather a fundamental reimagining of several game systems. The most significant innovation is the Affinity system, designed to create deeper strategic connections between buildings and their environments.

The Affinity mechanic introduces location-based bonuses when certain structures are placed in optimal configurations. For example, apiaries will now demonstrate improved productivity when situated near extensive woodland areas. The system has evolved during development to include more complex interactions, where some buildings can enhance others' Affinities while environmental changes like deforestation may negatively impact nearby structures.
