NetEase Games, the developer behind the popular team-based shooter Marvel Rivals, has revealed they currently lack access to Nintendo Switch 2 development kits, creating a significant barrier for bringing the game to Nintendo's next-generation console. This technical limitation comes as the game prepares to launch its ambitious Season 3 update titled 'The Abyss Awakens' on July 11.

The upcoming season introduces exciting new content including Jean Grey from X-Men as a playable Duelist, complete with her powerful Phoenix abilities. Players will also explore a new Domination map set on Klyntar, the Symbiote homeworld, and experience enhanced Team-Up mechanics between characters like Jean Grey and Wolverine.

In an interview with Video Gamer, Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun Chen explained that while NetEase remains interested in a Switch 2 version, the development team currently lacks the necessary hardware to begin porting efforts. This situation mirrors challenges faced by other developers awaiting access to Switch 2 development kits.

NetEase has previously stated that porting to the original Nintendo Switch wasn't feasible due to hardware limitations with Unreal Engine 5. However, the Switch 2's rumored capabilities - including enhanced graphics, Nvidia DLSS support, and improved Joy-Con functionality - could potentially make a port viable once development kits become available.

For now, players can enjoy Marvel Rivals Season 3 on existing platforms including Steam and PlayStation 5. NetEase has committed to pursuing Switch 2 development as soon as possible, though the process may take several months even after obtaining the necessary hardware.
