Bungie Aims to Improve New Player Experience in Destiny 2
2025-07-14 01:51:45Bungie's popular first-person shooter Destiny 2 is undergoing significant changes to welcome new players more effectively. According to Assistant Game Director Robbie Stevens, the development team recognizes the challenges beginners face and is working on solutions to improve the onboarding experience.
Since its 2017 launch, Destiny 2 has maintained a strong player base, though certain complex systems like build-crafting have proven difficult for newcomers. Stevens acknowledges these pain points and reveals Bungie's strategy to create "a more curated experience" for early-game content without sacrificing the depth that keeps veterans engaged.
In a recent interview, Stevens explained that Bungie plans to streamline tutorial elements for basic shooter mechanics, allowing more time to focus on Destiny 2's unique systems. The successful implementation of Explorer Mode for dungeons serves as a model for these improvements, having already helped many players complete challenging content.
While Explorer Mode won't necessarily expand to other game areas, Stevens emphasized that accessibility remains an ongoing priority. These changes will extend beyond the upcoming Renegades expansion, scheduled for December 2025.
Beyond the new player experience, Destiny 2 is preparing major gameplay overhauls in the Edge of Fate expansion. Significant changes to melee combat, armor systems, and Glaives are expected, with more updates planned throughout the year.
