This new version promises enhanced graphics and smoother gameplay compared to its predecessor on the original Switch. As Apex Legends enters its sixth year, the upcoming Season 26: Showdown is set to introduce significant changes. Among these is the permanent addition of the Wildcard game mode, which promises to shake up the meta with new weapon and legend adjustments. The season kicks off on the same day as the Switch 2 release, ensuring players on all platforms can dive into the action simultaneously.

A 45-second trailer highlighted the Switch 2 version's capabilities, confirming that both Battle Royale and Mixtape modes will benefit from improved resolution and performance, likely supporting 60 FPS. Additionally, players logging in on either Switch 1 or Switch 2 before September 16 will receive an exclusive Legendary Pathfinder skin, "P.A.T.H."

Respawn further detailed the Wildcard mode in a deep-dive video on Twitter, explaining its 30-player lobbies, faster gameplay, and loot explosions designed to keep players engaged. This mode, along with buffs to Caustic and Bangalore and Ranked updates, forms the core of Season 26's offerings.

Ahead of the new season, Respawn has implemented temporary matchmaking changes for Ranked play, addressing player feedback about uneven skill distribution. This adjustment aims to create fairer matches by limiting the lobbies Masters and Predator players can join.
