The 2018 release continues to defy expectations, maintaining strong sales performance nearly seven years after its initial launch.

While Grand Theft Auto remains Rockstar's flagship franchise, Red Dead Redemption 2 has established itself as a commercial powerhouse in its own right. As of May 2024, the game ranked as the seventh best-selling title in video game history with 63 million copies sold. The subsequent year saw an additional 14 million units moved, propelling it to sixth place on the all-time sales charts.

Take-Two's financial disclosures reveal that the Red Dead franchise as a whole has now exceeded 104 million lifetime sales, with RDR2 accounting for the overwhelming majority at 77 million units. The game's most recent sales surge is particularly noteworthy - between February and August 2025, approximately 7 million copies were sold, demonstrating remarkable staying power for a title originally released in 2018.
