Grounded 2 has made an impressive debut by breaking into Xbox's top 10 most played games list, demonstrating the continued success of Obsidian Entertainment's unique survival adventure series. The game's achievement becomes even more remarkable when considering the heavyweight competition it faces from established titles dominating the upper ranks of the chart.

As the sequel to Obsidian's innovative backyard survival game that first launched in early access back in 2020, Grounded 2 began its own early access journey on July 29, 2025, available for Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms. Published by Xbox Game Studios, the game received a significant boost by being included as one of the day-one additions to Xbox Game Pass in July, undoubtedly contributing to its strong player numbers.

While Grounded 2 hasn't reached the summit yet, its position among these gaming titans speaks volumes about its appeal. The top spots remain dominated by free-to-play behemoths like Fortnite and Roblox, with other Game Pass staples like Minecraft maintaining strong positions. Sports titles NBA 2K25 and EA Sports College Football 26 also show the diverse preferences of Xbox players.

The PC version through Steam has also shown respectable performance, though not matching its Xbox counterpart. With over 8,700 user reviews currently placing it in the "Mostly Positive" category (78% approval), the game has achieved an impressive peak of nearly 49,000 concurrent players. While numbers have naturally declined since launch, recent 24-hour peaks still reach about half of that initial surge.

Despite these strong early numbers, Grounded 2 still has significant development ahead before its full release. Following a similar pattern to its predecessor's two-year early access period, the developers have outlined an ambitious roadmap featuring major updates planned through fall, winter, and into next summer. Players can look forward to new creatures, equipment, tools, and gameplay features like ziplines and passive mutations.
