Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict Expansion Arrives August 29
2025-08-21 08:27:58Grinding Gear Games has officially revealed The Third Edict, the next major expansion for Path of Exile 2, scheduled for release on August 29. This substantial update continues the developer's commitment to regularly enhancing the action RPG since its early access launch in December 2024.
The expansion introduces Act 4 of the main campaign, transporting players to the Karui archipelago of Ngamakanui. Here, adventurers must search for fragments of a legendary weapon that represents the only hope against the terrifying Beast. The archipelago features eight distinct islands that can be explored in any order, offering diverse environments ranging from tropical beaches to dangerous volcanic coasts, each with unique challenges and enemies.
While The Third Edict doesn't introduce a new character class as some players anticipated, it brings three formidable new bosses: Lord of Kin, Diamora, and Song of Death. These challenging encounters will test even the most experienced Path of Exile 2 veterans.
A significant overhaul comes to the endgame progression system. Previously, players needed to complete the three Acts twice to unlock endgame content. The new system introduces three interludes with fresh areas and boss battles, allowing characters to progress naturally to level 65 where the true endgame experience begins.
To celebrate the expansion's launch, Grinding Gear Games will make Path of Exile 2 free to play from August 29 through September 1. During this period, both PC and console players will have full access to all available content, including The Third Edict expansion. After the free period concludes, players can purchase early access to continue their journey or wait for the game's full release.
