In an official blog post, the company confirmed that its widely popular cloud streaming capability will now be integrated into the more affordable subscription tiers—Core and Standard. This enhancement is initially accessible to participants in the Xbox Insider program, with a broader release planned for all subscribers in the coming weeks.

Xbox Game Pass continues to stand out as one of the industry's most valuable gaming subscriptions, frequently updated with new titles and day-one releases. Over recent years, the service has undergone substantial evolution. In 2023, Microsoft phased out Xbox Live Gold, introducing the Game Pass Core tier which offers online multiplayer access and a curated selection of games. The following year saw the launch of Xbox Game Pass Standard, positioning it between Core and Ultimate. While these entry-level plans may have seemed less feature-rich compared to Ultimate, this new change could significantly enhance their appeal.

Through a recent blog post from the Xbox Insider Team (as reported by VGC), Microsoft detailed important enhancements to its subscription service. Starting August 27, Xbox Insider members can experience a new update that brings Xbox Cloud Gaming to both Core and Standard tiers—a feature previously exclusive to Ultimate subscribers. Additionally, Microsoft is broadening PC gaming accessibility, allowing Core and Standard members to play PC versions of selected games through Xbox Game Pass.

These updates are currently in the testing phase with Xbox Insider program participants, with a general release timeline yet to be announced. Microsoft has not specified when all users will gain access to these features.

Given that Xbox Cloud Gaming has demonstrated strong popularity among Ultimate subscribers, this expansion aligns with Microsoft's strategy to make cloud gaming more accessible. The announcement follows recent reports that Microsoft was considering a more budget-friendly cloud gaming service (via The Verge). According to Microsoft's VP of Next Generation, cloud gaming has shown remarkable engagement: "We observe numerous players utilizing Game Pass Ultimate primarily for cloud access," the executive noted.
