This technical glitch forces users to re-download approximately 100 GB of data, creating significant inconvenience. While previous updates for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone have occasionally required partial re-downloads, this particular incident appears more widespread and disruptive.

Activision's mid-season refresh, officially dubbed Season 5 Reloaded, represents a substantial content injection for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone enthusiasts. The update introduces groundbreaking features including the long-awaited opening of Stadium in Warzone, making the building's interior accessible throughout matches. Additionally, players can experience Deadline, an innovative limited-time mode, alongside various events. For Black Ops 6 devotees, the update delivers a fresh 6v6 multiplayer map, an innovative scorestreak system, and the return of several fan-favorite game modes.

Before the update's deployment, Activision promoted Season 5 Reloaded as a solution to reduce Call of Duty's overall file size by over 100 GB. According to GameSpot's investigation, while the update successfully shrinks the game's footprint, it has simultaneously created substantial complications. PlayStation 5 users specifically face the peculiar requirement to completely re-download game packages after the initial update installation. Despite the massive download approaching 100 GB, the final installation will only consume 27 GB of storage space.

The reasoning behind forcing complete package re-downloads for file optimization remains unclear. However, Activision is attempting to mitigate player frustration by offering compensation for downloading the Season 5 Reloaded update. The development studio has confirmed it will distribute a package of 2XP Tokens across all platforms. Players can claim five 1-hour Double Player XP tokens, five 1-hour Double Weapon XP tokens, and five 1-hour Double Battle Pass XP tokens simply by downloading the update and accessing Call of Duty between 10 AM PT on September 4 and October 1.

Activision has clarified that this comprehensive file reorganization serves as preparation for the upcoming Black Ops 7 open beta scheduled for October. Players who pre-ordered the next series installment will gain beta access starting October 2, while general availability begins October 5. The full release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms is set for November 14.
