Just before his trial period began on August 14, developers shared comprehensive details about his backstory and gameplay mechanics, giving the community ample opportunity to understand how this water-based hero would function within team compositions.

Blizzard's hero introduction for Season 18 extended beyond just Wuyang himself. In the lead-up to Overwatch 2 Season 18's release, the developers shared an animated trailer titled "Elemental Kin" that featured Wuyang receiving an invitation to join Overwatch. This cinematic short included an intense sparring match between Wuyang and his sister Anran, who wields twin fans and demonstrates impressive fire-based abilities.

Voiced by popular Overwatch 2 content creator Fareeha, Anran represents the elemental opposite of her water-bending brother. Her combat style involves spreading flames across the battlefield with graceful yet deadly movements. The fact that she also receives an invitation to join Overwatch alongside her brother has led many community members to speculate about her potential future as a playable hero.

This isn't the first appearance of Anran in Overwatch lore. She played a significant role in the "Against the Tide" backstory comic, which established Wuxing University - an educational institution divided into five colleges each inspired by the Five Phases: Fire, Water, Metal, Wood, and Earth.
