In a recent livestream presentation, Bungie unveiled extensive new information about the upcoming Renegades expansion for Destiny 2, which draws significant inspiration from the Star Wars universe. This marks an exciting moment for the Destiny 2 community as the mid-season Ash & Iron update has finally gone live, introducing fresh content and gameplay adjustments for players to experience.

Before the official launch, Bungie had teased a special Destiny 2 broadcast designed to showcase the Ash & Iron content, including the highly anticipated return of the Plaguelands environment. Within this area, fireteams of three guardians can participate in a new narrative-driven activity called Reclaim. This objective-based mode challenges players to combat enemies against a countdown timer while earning valuable rewards. However, the most anticipated aspect of the stream proved to be the comprehensive look at the forthcoming Renegades expansion.

During the presentation, Bungie released a new ViDoc detailing the Renegades expansion, scheduled for release on December 2nd. Rather than serving as a standalone narrative, this expansion continues directly from the events of Edge of Fate, further developing the storyline involving The Nine and their prophecy that players uncovered after the final confrontation. Renegades represents a creative partnership between Bungie and LucasFilm Games, granting the developers access to Star Wars-themed audio elements, visual motifs, equipment designs, and weaponry.

The expansion's storyline follows players as they infiltrate a criminal underworld to rescue The Drifter, who has found himself in considerable trouble. New Syndicate factions will offer various missions to players, essentially providing different replayable activities within a region called the Lawless Frontier. This location takes visual and thematic inspiration from iconic Star Wars settings such as Hoth, Tatooine, and other familiar environments. Players will also discover a new social hub at Tharsis Outpost on Mars, where criminal leaders gather and guardians can build their reputation throughout the underworld.

Naturally, a major Destiny 2 expansion wouldn't be complete without new gear to collect, and Renegades introduces an entirely new weapon archetype called the Blaster. This weapon clearly draws inspiration from classic Star Wars firearms like Han Solo's DL-44 blaster, complete with authentic blaster sound effects. Additionally, players will gain access to new renegade abilities—unlockable bonuses that allow guardians to perform various actions such as summoning Cabal Walkers, calling in airstrikes, and other combat enhancements.

Although Renegades remains several months from launch, the community remains optimistic that the numerous changes occurring within both the game and Bungie's leadership structure will result in a superior final product. Many players have expressed that recent reward system improvements represent a positive first step, and continue to hope that additional enhancements are forthcoming as development progresses.
