Two Warhammer 40K Games to Be Delisted from Steam
2025-05-19 00:08:40Publisher Slitherine has confirmed that Warhammer 40K games Sanctus Reach and Armageddon will be removed from Steam on May 19. Originating as a tabletop miniatures game by Games Workshop, the Warhammer 40K universe has expanded into novels, animations, and numerous video games. The first video game adaptation, Space Crusade, launched in 1992 by Gremlin Interactive, marked the beginning of a gaming legacy that now includes dozens of titles.
The Warhammer 40K series spans multiple genres, from real-time strategy (Dawn of War) to turn-based tactics (Mechanicus) and first-person shooters (Space Marine). While some titles like Space Marine 2 (2024) have achieved mainstream success, lesser-known games explore niche aspects of the franchise's rich lore and combat mechanics.
Slitherine Software announced that both Warhammer 40K: Armageddon and Sanctus Reach, along with their DLCs, will be delisted from Steam and their official website. However, players who already own these games will retain access, and both titles will remain purchasable on GOG.com. While no official reason was provided, industry speculation points to expired licensing agreements with Games Workshop. Notably, Armageddon is currently available at a 90% discount on Steam.
Released in 2014, Warhammer 40K: Armageddon was developed by Flashback Games and The Lordz Games Studio. This turn-based strategy game centers on the Second War for Armageddon, offering single-player campaigns and multiplayer modes (co-op and PVP). It received generally favorable reviews, averaging around 7/10 scores.
Sanctus Reach (2017), developed by Straylight Entertainment, is based on the Red Waaagh! and Hour of the Wolf campaign books. This turn-based title focuses on the brutal conflict between Orks and Space Marines and includes a unique play-by-mail multiplayer mode. Despite its innovative approach, the game garnered mixed reviews upon release.
While some fans lament the delisting of these titles, the community's focus has shifted to recent leaks and upcoming releases. Rumors about a new Dawn of War installment and details about Space Marine 2's Horde Mode have dominated discussions. Interestingly, Saber Interactive hinted that Space Marine 2 still holds undiscovered content, even for dataminers.
