Fans of the Dino Crisis franchise have been eagerly awaiting a new installment for over two decades, and Kamiya's interest has reignited hopes for the series' return.

Originally developed by Capcom and directed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, Dino Crisis gained a dedicated following for its unique blend of action, puzzle-solving, and prehistoric horror. The 1999 original sold over 2.4 million copies and received widespread critical acclaim. The series includes three mainline entries and two spin-offs, with the last release being Dino Crisis 3 in 2003. Despite persistent fan demand and occasional rumors, no official sequel or reboot has been announced.

Amid the ongoing fan requests for more Dino Crisis, Hideki Kamiya—known for directing Resident Evil 2 and creating franchises like Devil May Cry, Okami, and Bayonetta—has voiced his willingness to lead a new installment in the series. During a recent appearance on The MinnMax Show, Kamiya was asked about directing various Capcom IPs. While he declined interest in returning to Resident Evil, he enthusiastically responded to the idea of working on Dino Crisis, stating he'd "love to give it a shot."

Kamiya's interest in directing a new Dino Crisis game carries significant weight, given his impressive creative legacy. His endorsement adds to the growing demand for the franchise's return. Capcom has previously acknowledged fan interest through surveys, and the 1999 original performed well when added to the PS Plus Premium classics catalog last year. With Capcom actively revitalizing its legacy franchises, a Dino Crisis revival could be on the horizon.

However, securing the right director and development team will be crucial for Capcom. While Kamiya is an excellent candidate, he is currently focused on the Okami sequel, meaning any potential Dino Crisis project would likely be years away. Another option could be Dino Crisis creator Shinji Mikami, who left Tango Gameworks in 2023 and is not currently tied to any major project. However, Mikami has expressed reluctance to return to the survival horror genre and has previously doubted the viability of a modern Dino Crisis game.
