The development team of Overwatch 2 has unveiled exciting details about the upcoming Season 17, featuring significant updates to Flashpoint maps and a brand-new limited-time game mode. Alongside the usual seasonal content like cosmetics and Mythic items, players can expect fresh gameplay experiences and map improvements.

Season 17 introduces Hacks and Hijinx, a 6v6 limited-time game mode running from July 15 to July 28. This mode takes place exclusively on Control maps and spices things up by randomly applying modifiers at the start of each round. Players might encounter anything from health packs that charge ultimate abilities to gravity-altering effects, ensuring dynamic and unpredictable matches.

Additionally, the new Aatlis map joins the Flashpoint mode, while Esperança and Samoa are added to the Stadium mode rotation. These additions promise to diversify the battlegrounds and keep gameplay fresh.

Season 17 also brings notable balance adjustments, including a unique buff for Bastion, making the hero more versatile in combat. These changes aim to refine the gameplay experience and keep the meta evolving.

In a recent developer livestream, the team highlighted major updates to existing Flashpoint maps, Suravasa and New Junk City. The redesign focuses on improving visibility and navigation by reducing unnecessary clutter and adding new flank routes. These changes aim to minimize frustrating choke points and encourage more fluid team fights.

Senior level designer Jorge Murillo emphasized the team's goal: "We want players to engage in satisfying battles on the objectives, not get stuck at entrances." The reworked maps maintain strategic cover options while opening up new tactical possibilities.

Another exciting addition is the map voting feature, allowing players to choose their preferred battleground before matches in both Quick Play and Competitive modes. This system not only enhances player agency but also provides Blizzard with valuable feedback on less popular maps for future improvements.
