The gaming community has expressed significant disappointment with the $40 remaster, citing numerous technical issues, underwhelming visual enhancements, and questionable pricing. Steam reviews currently stand at "Mostly Negative" with only 29% positive ratings, while OpenCritic shows just 55% of critics recommending the title.

SneakyBox's official Steam announcement outlined two key compensation measures:

2. A 50% discount for owners of the original Anniversary Edition
