YouTube Replaces Trending Tab with New YouTube Charts Feature
2025-07-11 09:39:09YouTube is bidding farewell to its long-standing Trending page, a feature that has been part of the platform for over ten years. This change may surprise many regular users of the video-sharing giant.
The platform frequently updates its interface, with some modifications receiving more user approval than others. For instance, in April 2025, YouTube altered thumbnail sizes on the homepage, sparking initial complaints from the community. After two decades of operation, YouTube continues to evolve, with the removal of the Trending feature being its latest significant update.
In an official announcement, YouTube revealed plans to replace the Trending tab, which debuted in 2015. The company explained that while compiling trending videos was straightforward in YouTube's early days, the platform's expansion into numerous categories and subgenres has made the Trending page less effective for content discovery.
According to YouTube, the current system often fails niche content consumers - such as gaming enthusiasts, followers of specific creators, or hobbyists - who struggle to find relevant videos amidst poorly organized trending content. This has reportedly led to decreased traffic on the Trending page, prompting its replacement with YouTube Charts in the coming weeks.
YouTube Charts represents a more sophisticated approach to content discovery. This new section not only highlights popular videos but organizes them into specific categories. Currently, the feature includes charts for music videos, podcasts, and movie trailers, with plans to expand into additional genres.
For gaming content, YouTube directs users to the Gaming Explore page, which aggregates trending gameplay videos, trailers, and related content. The platform assures users that personalized recommendations - based on viewing history, preferences, and subscriptions - will remain unchanged.
