Originally debuting in North America in 1998, Final Fantasy Tactics quickly became a cult classic, praised for its intricate gameplay and compelling narrative. Fans were thrilled when the remaster was announced during the June 2025 State of Play presentation. However, some concerns arose regarding missing content from The War of the Lions, the 2007 PSP version. Despite this, recent updates suggest that the remaster will address long-standing fan requests, including more meaningful character dialogue.

In a recent interview on the PlayStation Blog, director Kazutoyo Maehiro revealed that NPCs in The Ivalice Chronicles will have additional dialogue during battles. This change aims to flesh out the story and characters, addressing a common critique of the original game. "Characters like Agrias, Cid, and Mustadio will now speak more frequently in specific battles," Maehiro explained. The script has also been refined to accommodate the addition of voice acting, as confirmed by writer Yasumi Matsuno.

While excitement for the remaster is high, some fans were disappointed to learn that the Collector's Box does not include the game itself, despite its premium price tag. The box is currently sold out, but physical and digital pre-orders remain available ahead of the September 30 release date.

Maehiro hinted that the success of The Ivalice Chronicles could pave the way for more Final Fantasy Tactics games. As the franchise approaches its 30th anniversary, this remaster offers a chance for both longtime fans and new players to experience the timeless charm of Ivalice's strategic battles and rich storytelling.
