Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation Plus Essential free game selection for August 2025. This month's offerings include a critically-acclaimed soulslike RPG, a hardcore survival multiplayer title, and an anime-inspired fighting game.

The PlayStation Plus subscription service continues its tradition of offering 3-4 free games monthly. Following July 2025's impressive lineup that included Diablo 4 and The King of Fighters 15, Sony has now revealed what members can expect in August.

Starting August 5, PS Plus subscribers will gain access to:

• Lies of P (PS4/PS5) - A dark reimagining of Pinocchio's story in soulslike action RPG format
• DayZ (PS4) - Intense multiplayer survival game set in a zombie apocalypse
• My Hero One's Justice 2 (PS4) - 3D arena fighter based on the popular My Hero Academia anime series

The standout title is undoubtedly Lies of P, which received widespread critical praise upon its 2023 release. The game recently expanded with the Overture DLC in June 2025, adding new content to this dark fantasy adventure.

As part of PlayStation Plus' 15th anniversary celebrations, subscribers will also receive special avatar sets featuring characters from major franchises including Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarok, and Hogwarts Legacy.

This announcement follows an exceptional July 2025 for PS Plus members, which saw not only strong Essential tier offerings but also significant additions to the Extra and Premium catalogs, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Banishers: Ghost of New Eden.
