The Impending Shutdown of MMORPG Skyforge: A Farewell to a Once-Promising Game

The MMORPG Skyforge is preparing for its final curtain call on October 29, 2025. While this date marks its definitive end, the game will disappear from Steam earlier, with only its PS4 and other console versions surviving until fall 2025.

Skyforge

Developed as a collaboration between Allods Online creator Allods Team and acclaimed Obsidian Entertainment, Skyforge launched as a free-to-play MMO in 2015. Despite mixed reviews, it earned recognition like MMORPG of the Year shortly after its PC debut. The game expanded to PS4 in 2016, Xbox One in late 2017, and finally reached Nintendo Switch in early 2021.

Publisher Innova recently confirmed Skyforge's impending closure through an official announcement. The shutdown will occur in phases: PC servers go dark on September 3, followed by console versions on October 29. This explains why console versions remain downloadable in August 2025, while the PC version was already removed from Steam and 4game.com on August 1. Innova has also ceased accepting in-game purchases, following standard industry practice for discontinued live-service titles.

While existing PC players can continue until September, the game's dwindling population likely sealed its fate. SteamDB data shows Skyforge peaked at just 16 concurrent players in August 2025 - a far cry from its 2022 peak of over 100 players. With live-service games requiring constant investment and Skyforge losing all momentum, the decision to sunset the game became inevitable, though no official explanation was provided.
