Nintendo has announced that Forsaken 64, the acclaimed first-person shooter developed by Acclaim Entertainment, will be making its debut on the Nintendo 64: Nintendo Classics Mature 17+ application on September 4th. This addition will become the fifth game available through this specialized service, which demands both an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and the Expansion Pack upgrade for access.

Initially launched for PC in April 1998, Forsaken received its Nintendo 64 adaptation just one month later in May 1998. The game experienced a revival when NightDive Studios, an Atari subsidiary that currently holds the rights to Forsaken 64, released a remastered version for PC and Xbox One in July 2018. This same studio is responsible for bringing this classic first-person shooter to the Nintendo Switch Online service. In Forsaken 64, players assume the role of a bike-riding mercenary battling mechanical monstrosities that have overrun a post-apocalyptic Earth. The game is celebrated for its split-screen multiplayer capability supporting up to four players, securing its reputation as one of the finest FPS experiences on the N64.

While the Nintendo 64's library of M-rated games remains relatively limited, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will soon have the opportunity to rediscover this iconic shooter. Forsaken 64 is scheduled to launch on Thursday, September 4th, at approximately 9:00 PM Eastern Time through the Nintendo 64: Nintendo Classics Mature 17+ application. It's important for players to note that the M-rated N64 app requires a separate download from the standard N64 application. Access to Forsaken 64 on Switch consoles mandates an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. Nintendo has released a brief trailer showcasing both single-player and multiplayer gameplay moments. With this addition, the N64 Mature 17+ app will expand to five titles total, following its previous update in October 2024 that introduced Shadow Man and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

For observant Nintendo enthusiasts, the revelation of Forsaken 64 might not come as a complete surprise. Its appearance appears to validate earlier leaks suggesting five games would join the N64 app, including Forsaken 64, Glover, and Super Smash Bros. These leaks indicated that a May 2025 trailer for the Nintendo Switch Online service contained obscured box art for five N64 games, which dedicated fans subsequently decoded and shared across social media platforms.

Similar to other N64 titles available through the Nintendo Classics application, Switch 2 users will have access to enhanced features including gameplay rewind functionality and customizable control mapping while playing Forsaken 64.
