Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles - A New Era for Strategy RPGs
2025-06-22 02:49:38Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is set to reintroduce the beloved tactical RPG to modern audiences this fall. While this remaster is highly anticipated, it might not be the only strategic adventure Square Enix has in store for fans in the coming years. Although no official sequel has been announced, director Kazutoyo Maehiro has hinted at the possibility of future installments if this revival proves successful.
The remastered version of the 1997 classic was officially unveiled during the June 4 State of Play presentation. Scheduled for release on September 30 across multiple platforms, this isn't just a simple visual upgrade. Players can look forward to fully voiced dialogue, adjustable battle speeds, and narrative refinements that aim to enhance the original experience while staying true to its roots.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Maehiro discussed the game's potential to resonate with new players, especially given the long hiatus since the last Tactics title. He emphasized that this remaster is designed specifically for those who missed the original, while also suggesting that its success could lead to new Tactics games in the future.
This isn't the first time Square Enix has revisited the 28-year-old strategy RPG. Following its initial PlayStation release, the game was included in Sony's Greatest Hits collection and later received an enhanced PSP version titled War of the Lions in 2007. However, Maehiro confirmed that content exclusive to War of the Lions won't be part of The Ivalice Chronicles.
