Developer Sloclap has announced an impressive milestone for their latest sports title, Rematch, which recently debuted as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass. The game attracted over one million unique players within just 24 hours of its launch, joining the ranks of other successful Game Pass titles like The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Unlike traditional soccer games such as EA Sports FC, Rematch offers a fresh perspective by allowing players to control individual athletes rather than entire teams. Players can choose specialized roles including attacker, defender, or goalkeeper. Currently, the game focuses on online competitive play with modes like 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, and a ranked 5v5 variant.

While Xbox Game Pass undoubtedly boosted Rematch's visibility, the game has also gained traction independently. On Steam, it achieved a notable peak of 92,000 concurrent players shortly after release. Reviews have been generally positive, with critics praising its unique mechanics and art style, though some noted performance issues and the absence of a solo mode at launch.

Sloclap has outlined plans to enhance Rematch with future updates, including crossplay functionality—a feature that couldn't be implemented at launch due to technical challenges. The development team is also prioritizing fixes for lag and performance issues, alongside major bug resolutions. Additionally, an offline mode featuring AI teammates is slated for introduction in 2026, catering to players who prefer solo experiences.
