In a significant move within the gaming industry, Atari has revealed plans to acquire a majority stake in Thunderful Group AB, a prominent Swedish video game holding company. The deal, valued at approximately $5.17 million (50 million Swedish krona), will grant Atari control over 82% of Thunderful's outstanding shares, positioning the legendary gaming company as the primary shareholder.

Thunderful Group, established in 2017 as the parent company of developers Zoink and Image & Form, currently oversees five development studios and multiple publishing operations. This acquisition will bring several acclaimed game franchises under Atari's umbrella, including the critically praised Lost in Random series and the diverse SteamWorld anthology.

The business transaction, pending approval from Thunderful's shareholders at a meeting scheduled for late August, represents Atari's latest strategic move to strengthen its position in the European gaming market. CEO Wade Rosen emphasized that this acquisition aligns with the company's broader expansion strategy, following previous notable purchases including the 2024 acquisition of Intellivision.

Should the deal proceed as planned, Atari will gain ownership of 20 distinct video game intellectual properties. Among the most valuable assets in this portfolio are:
