As Gamescom Opening Night Live approaches, rumors have surfaced on social media suggesting that Bethesda may be working on a remaster of the beloved post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout 3. While Bethesda has shared some details about its Gamescom lineup, there has been no official confirmation regarding a remaster for Fallout 3.

Originally launched in October 2008, Fallout 3 marked a significant shift for the franchise, introducing a first-person open-world gameplay style reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Set decades after Fallout 2, the game follows the Lone Wanderer as they navigate the desolate Capital Wasteland—the irradiated remains of Washington, D.C. The title also received several DLC expansions, including The Pitt and Mothership Zeta. Known for its dark atmosphere and memorable moments, Fallout 3 is often credited with pioneering trends in open-world gaming.

While rumors should always be taken with caution, Fallout fans are hopeful for an announcement. According to a report by ComicBook, Bethesda and Gamescom may have accidentally leaked a "TBC" (To Be Confirmed) listing on the event's website just days before the expo. Many speculate this could hint at a Fallout 3 remaster, though no concrete details have emerged. Notably, Bethesda's Gamescom page has since removed any mention of a "TBC" project. Currently, the only confirmed titles from Bethesda at Gamescom are Doom: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Additionally, attendees may get a preview of the upcoming Order of Giants DLC for Indiana Jones, set to launch on September 4.

The speculation around a Fallout 3 remaster gained traction following the success of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. By July 2025, Bethesda reported that over nine million players had experienced Oblivion Remastered since its surprise release in April. Given Bethesda's tendency to shadow-drop remasters—as seen with Oblivion—fans believe the studio might adopt a similar strategy for Fallout 3.

Beyond potential remaster news, Bethesda has scheduled several German-language Twitch streams from August 21 to 23. Gamescom Opening Night Live kicks off on August 19 at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. Whether the Fallout 3 rumors hold any weight remains to be seen.
